Privacy Policy

How Parallel handles your photos, AI processing, saved moments and privacy choices.

Last updated:

1. Who we are

Parallel is provided by Hoa Bui under the Buddy Apps name. This policy covers the Parallel iPhone app, its image-generation service and related support. Contact us at hoa.buiduy@gmail.com with privacy questions.

Parallel uses online AI processing. It is not an entirely offline app. The Buddy Apps website and services you choose to share to have their own privacy policies.

2. Information we process

We process the photo you select, your alternate-life idea or editing instruction, generated images, and associated titles, captions and moment context. The app also sends its language, request identifiers and an installation identifier. An anonymous session links requests and results to your installation without a public profile or an email/password sign-up.

Service records include job status, timestamps, error codes and identifiers used for access control, usage limits and duplicate-request handling. Hosting and authentication providers may also process connection information such as IP addresses and technical logs. If you contact support, we receive the information you choose to send.

3. Photos and AI processing

When you request a photograph, another moment or an edit, the selected image and instructions are sent to our server and OpenAI for image generation and safety checks. For an edit, the current result is sent as the image to refine. Input and output images may be checked for prohibited content.

The app prepares and compresses selected photos and removes embedded metadata before upload; the server normalizes the image again. Source images are processed temporarily in server memory and are not saved in our result-storage bucket. A prepared reference photo is kept on your device so you can continue the same life.

Face-detection guidance runs on the device to help with photo selection; it is not used to identify who you are. We use a digest of the uploaded file to check that a continued life uses the same reference bytes, not to perform biometric identification.

OpenAI has its own retention rules. Its API documentation describes default abuse-monitoring retention of up to 30 days, with legal and safety exceptions. Our deletion controls do not guarantee immediate removal from provider logs. See OpenAI's data controls for details.

4. Why we use information

We use this information to create and deliver requested images, continue and edit moments, maintain your history, protect access, enforce safety and usage limits, resolve technical problems and respond to support requests. Where applicable, processing is based on providing the service you request, permission for optional features, service-security interests and legal obligations.

Parallel does not publish your photos to a public feed or use them for advertising. We do not sell your photos or personal information. The app's local activity journal records event names, timestamps and random life/moment identifiers, without photos or scenario text. It is not uploaded, and is limited to 2,000 events within 30 days.

5. Service providers and sharing

OpenAI processes images and instructions for generation and moderation. Supabase provides anonymous authentication, database records and private result storage. Hosting infrastructure runs our API and delivers this website. These services may process information outside your country under their applicable terms and safeguards.

Sharing is optional. A shared card can contain your generated photograph, life choice and moment details. The Try this life link contains the scenario, not your source photo, private result URL or account identifier. Recipient apps and people control their copies; their policies apply. We may also disclose information when required by law or necessary to address fraud, abuse or threats to safety.

6. Storage, retention and deletion

Generated images and scenario/moment content on our server expire after 30 days and are removed by scheduled cleanup; physical removal may take additional time after expiry. Failed-job content and orphaned results are eligible for cleanup after one day. These periods do not control OpenAI's retention or copies on your device.

My Lives keeps history and reference images locally. Older local result photos may be cleared when the image cache exceeds 250 MB. References may remain while used by a saved life or pending request. Deleting a life removes its local moments and requests deletion of its server results; an unneeded reference is removed when no other saved or pending work uses it. A failed network deletion may need to be retried. Copies saved to Photos or shared elsewhere must be deleted separately.

Minimal anonymous-account, installation, request-replay and any existing transaction/refund records can remain after image deletion for service integrity, abuse prevention or legal obligations. Removing the app alone does not send a server deletion request. Contact support to request deletion or access beyond the controls in My Lives; we may need information to verify ownership of an anonymous installation.

7. Permissions and your choices

Camera access is optional for taking a photo. You choose images through the photo picker; saving a result to Photos requests permission to add images. You can change permissions in iOS Settings. Denying a permission limits the related feature.

Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information, request portability, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent for optional processing, or complain to a data-protection authority. Contact us to make a request. We may retain information where permitted or required by law, and cannot remove copies held independently by recipients.

8. Security and children

We use authenticated access to private results, encrypted network connections and device file-protection features. No storage or transmission method is completely secure. Do not upload sensitive documents or photos you are not authorized to use.

Parallel is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has supplied personal information without appropriate permission, contact us so we can investigate and address it. Applicable local age and consent requirements also apply.

9. Updates and contact

We may update this policy as the service changes. The last-updated date identifies this version; material changes will be communicated through an appropriate channel, and additional consent requested where required. Privacy requests and questions can be sent to hoa.buiduy@gmail.com.
