Record Front and Rear Cameras Together on iPhone

Use Parallel Director to record your front and rear cameras together on a supported iPhone. Choose a layout and save one composed video.

When filming a vlog, you often have to choose between showing the scene ahead and capturing your own expression. Switching cameras can interrupt a sentence or miss a natural response. Parallel Director lets you record front and rear cameras together in one video on supported devices.

Use it to introduce a location, comment on a meal or demonstrate a product. The rear camera supplies the scene; your face and voice add your perspective.

Use Director when both views are happening live

Director is useful when the story depends on two live views. You might be walking through a market, showing the stalls ahead while explaining what you want to try.

Director saves one composed video. Dual instead produces separate portrait and landscape files from one rear camera. For commentary on a clip you already have, choose Reaction.

Making this choice before filming helps you collect the kind of footage you actually need.

Set up your recording

  1. 1.Open Parallel and choose Director.
  2. 2.Check that your device supports simultaneous front and rear capture.
  3. 3.Select portrait or landscape output before recording.
  4. 4.Choose a layout and position the floating camera.
  5. 5.Check microphone access if you want to record speech.
  6. 6.Make a short test and listen to it.

Picture in Picture works when the scene needs most of the screen and the presenter can stay in a corner. Split or Top and Bottom can help when both sources deserve more equal attention.

Choose the arrangement that makes your explanation easiest to follow, then check it with the actual subject in position.

Change layouts when the story changes

Director supports layout changes during a take. You can start with the scene ahead, bring yourself into the composition when you comment, and return attention to a product or location.

Let each change serve a clear purpose. Moving the phone, switching layouts and introducing a new idea at the same moment can be hard for viewers to follow. A short rehearsal helps you find a comfortable rhythm.

Keep the floating camera away from the detail you are discussing. A face inset should not hide a dish, a sign or the part of a product you are demonstrating. Read the Picture in Picture layout guide for more framing ideas.

Review the combined result

After stopping, open Gallery and play the composed video. Check that your face has enough light, the main scene is unobstructed and your speech is clear. You can then save to Photos or share the file.

Having front and rear cameras does not by itself guarantee simultaneous recording support. Available combinations depend on your hardware and camera configuration, so test Director on the device you intend to use.
